June 2011 HamGadgets News

Summer is just now officially starting, but around here it’s definitely been summer weather for a few weeks! Earlier this month we saw temperatures around 100 (that’s 38 for your Celsius folks), and now we seem to be in tornado season. Perfect weather for getting yourself and your gear ready for Field Day!

The big news from the past month was the announcement of the Universal Keying Adapter version 3 (UKA-3). I hope to have kits available in the next month or two, but there are still plenty of UKA-2 kits left. The UKA-3 will boast an optional aluminum cabinet, power switch, two indicator LEDs, easier integration into your own equipment, and easier configuration for your choice of either higher-current, DC-only or lower current, AC or DC polarity-insensitive operation. Cost will be slightly higher than the UKA-2, but still quite affordable. I will be taking pre-orders for the UKA-3 in late June or early July, as soon as I have firm pricing and a shipping date.

The custom boxes for the PicoKeyer-Plus are selling quite well! These are the same JM-22 boxes I have been selling for quite a while, but now I have them available with custom CNC machined holes to fit your PicoKeyer-Plus.  Both end panels are drilled for jacks and controls. The holes for the jacks are slightly counterbored for a better fit, and there is a small speaker grille drilled in the top cover. I have them in black and an off-white (“bone”) color. The new CNC machine is doing a great job on these.

I am also happy to announce that I have released firmware Version 1.31 for the MasterKeyer. Please check the news blog (http://www.hamgadgets.com/blog) for the official announcement and a link to the new firmware file. This is a bug fix release to correct a few minor user interface issues as well as a couple of Winkeyer emulation bugs.

And finally, my apologies for the fact that this month’s newsletter is about three weeks past due. Lots of family and work things are happening, and as with all part time businesses, priorities need to be set. I am trying to stay caught up on shipping, despite the temporary wait for PK-Plus kits.

Stay cool – stay tuned – stay active!
